Near Bismark, N.D.

Yesterday was a Herculean day of driving, from Rapid City, SD to Bismark, ND, over 7 hours total. There was only one stop along the way, primarily because there's nothing to see or do on this route. It's just miles and miles of prarie land with a ribbon of concrete highway running up the middle as far as,you can see.

More than 4 hours into the journey, we, arrived at RT 94, the primary West-East highway in ND, stopped for fuel and got back on the highway heading East. Immediately, we saw a sign for the "Enchanted Highway" and decided to explore it. This is a private effort to bring commerce to the small prarie town of Regent, about 32 miles down the road. Along the way are a series of very large  metal sculptures depicting various themes from prarie life. When you finally get to Regent, it's a tiny town with about 5 small commercial establishments and a VFW post. From Regent, we had to drive the 32 miles back to,the interstate, all in the MH with Jeep in tow.

Back on track, we drove another 50 miles or so to an exit where there was a WalMart. We pulled in there and over-nighted. We turned on the satellite, made a small dinner, watched some evening TV, and turned in. We were beat.

Today is pretty unplanned. We'll continue East and see what  find along the way. It's harder to do here in ND because there are no billboards on the interstate and not much development anyway.

4 hours of this
